Meet the neighbors: The Lee Family
Meet the Lee family!
Deukmook (husband) and Deaun (wife) are a sweet young couple here from Korea while Deukmook is working on his masters at USC downtown where he is studying Sports Marketing. They have twin boys, Woori and Wooyeon (the 'W' has more of a 'U' sound). They moved here within their first year of marriage and the boys were under six months old. Thankfully they both know some English, but hers is still very basic. Can you imagine moving across the world, with newborn twins, in the first year of your marriage, in a new country, where you don't know the language, and have no family nearby? From what we have seen they have been adjusting very well. Also evidently, Deaun has a YouTube channel where she vlogs about life in America with twin boys. We have watched a few of her videos, but they are all in Korean.
When they first moved here we helped them connect to the other older Korean family (the Kim's) in the community and now they both regularly spend time together. Our kids try to play together but they need pretty close supervision since a certain 2.5 year old named Enoch is still learning how to play gently with those who are smaller than him. This is one of the families that came to Beulah's fall festival and had a very good time!
When we shared our first meal with them we asked about their faith background. From what we can tell, they grew up between Catholic and Protestant family members but now do not ascribe to any one belief system. It seems with where they are in life right now they do not see a need for God since they have all they physically need. In my conversations with Deukmook I (Daniel) have been trying to show him his spiritual need. He and I have been able to have decent conversations about issues like race and parenting choice, but when it comes to spiritual matters he does not have much to say. With Deaun there is a greater language barrier that limits our ability to have a meaningful conversaiton with her. But, Adelaide has been faithful to be a resource helping Deaun to get better at English.
Would you please join us in prayer for this sweet couple to have their eyes opened to their spiritual need for Christ?
We would love to hear from you and pray for you! Who are you planning to reach out to this Christmas season? Let us know!
In Christ,
Daniel Maggard
